I found this book at work, which, for those who don't know, is a youth center.

It's all in French, which I can hardly speak, so you'll have to forgive my translations of Babelfish's translations. If you do know French, all corrections are welcome.

"Il y a tres, tres longtemps, il n'y avait pas d'etres humans et d'animaux sur la terre. Il n'y avait que des poissons dans la mer."

-The fish quietly lived their fish life, with no questions asked. And just that day, Poissonne was born.

And without being quiet for even two minutes, it wanted to know everything, especially what was at the end of the water, and if there was another kind of "sea".


"Aucun poisson n'avait jamais nage aussi loin. Il valait mieux oublier ca!

Poissone essaya d'oublier, mais c'etait plus fort qu'elle. Ne pas savoir ce qu'il y avait au bout de l'eau, de l'autre cote de la mer, la rendait malade.

Il ne lui restait qu'une chose a faire, aller voir."
-No fish had ever swam so far, so it was better forget these ideas.

Poissone tried to forget, but instead it found itself wondering even more. To not want to see the end of the sea and the other world, made it sick. It decided that it did not want to remain here any longer, and set off to go find it.


"Poissone quitta donc ses parents et ses amis pour entreprendre le plus long voyage jamais fait par un poisson.

Le premier soir, elle eut bien du mal a s'endormir. Pas de papa ou de maman pour raconter l'histoire du petit Poisson Rouge, donner des becs mouilles et chanter 'Bonne nuit cher enfant...'"
-Poissone thus left its parents and its friends behind to undertake the longest voyage ever made by a fish.

The first night, it had great difficulty sleeping with no mom or dad to tell it the story of the Red Fish, to give snuggles, or to sing "Good night, my child".


"Poissonne nageait depuis bien des annees, quand elle arriva enfin au bout de la mer. Elle en avait le souffle coupe! Il n'y avait plus d'eau, que de la terre a perte de vue.

Elle aurait donne tout au monde pour pouvoir aller s'y promener."
-Poissonne swam for many years, and it finally reached the end of the sea. When it reached the shore, it took a great big breath.

There was more then just water, but ground as far as the eye could see. It would give everything to be able to walk on the earth.


"A force d'en avoir envie, il finit par lui pousser des pattes. Elle put enfin sortir de l'eau et se lancer a quatre pattes dans l'exploration de la terre.

Elle essaya bientot de se lever pour voir ce qui se passait un peu plus haut que le bout de son nez."
-Through yearning and wanting, it eventually pushed out legs. It then left the water to explore the ground on its four legs.

It soon tried to rise up to see a little higher than its own nose.


"Elle est surement tombee des centaines de fois avant de reussir a se tenir debout.

Heureusement, deux petits coussins, qu'on appelle aujourd'hui les fesses, avaient pousse au bas de son dos."
-It took hundreds of tries before it was able to stand upright.

Fortunately, two small cushions, today called the "buttocks", had grown on its lower back.


"C'est ainsi que Poissonne est devenue ce qu'on a appele plus tard une personne ou un etre humain."
-Poissonne then became what is later known as a person, or a human being.


"Depuis ce temps-la, chaque personne revit dans son corps l'histoire de la naissance des etres humains.

Chacun de nous est d'abord comme un petit poisson dans le ventre de sa maman qui, lorsqu'elle est enceinte, a le vertre plein d'un liquide qui ressemble a l'eau de la mer."

Each one of us is like a little fish in the belly of its mother who is full of a liquid which resembles the water in the sea.


"Chacun a enuite bien envie de savoir ce qui se passe a l'exterieur. Il se met alors a nous pousser des jambes et des bras et tout ce qu'il faut pour ressemble a un etre humain.

Quand on est pret, on sort du ventre de sa maman en prenant un grande respiration."
-Each one of us has a desire for knowing what life is like on the outside, and when that time comes, we push our legs and arms out and start to resemble a human being.

When one is ready, we leave the belly of our mothers by taking a great breath.


"Au debut, on ne peut aller bien loin. On se retrouve vite a quatre pattes, le nez fourre partout.

On comprend bientot qu'en se tenant debout on pourra plus facilement toucher a tout.

Heureusement qu'on a des fesses, car on n'y arrive pas du premier coup."
-In the beginning, one cannot travel far. One also finds that they have four legs and cannot see higher than their noses.

One soon understands that being able to stand upright means that one will be able to reach higher objects.

Fortunately, there are buttocks.


"Quand on a bien marche, grimpe et saute, l'envie nous prend de voler dans le ciel comme un oiseau."
-When one learns to walk well, to climb, and to jump, our envy will take us to the sky as well.
